The Garrick Temple and gardens, Hampton

In 1794 the great actor-manager David Garrick purchased Hampton House (now Garrick’s Villa) overlooking the Thames at Hampton. He commissioned ‘Capability’ Brown to design the riverside gardens. In 1756 Garrick built, as a tribute to his idol Shakespeare, an octagonal Palladian temple.

Today the gardens are a perfect location for a bridal party to enjoy photographs and drinks in the Temple. The view along the Thames is delightful and Garrick’s Temple adds a touch of romance to the rural views.
